The Amazing Spider-Man actor Andrew Garfield, who came in limelight in the eyes of the mainstream media and audiences after starring in the role of the Marvel web-slinger Spider-Man in the Sony pictures produced film series, reveals how his role of the American composer and lyricist Jonathan Larson in his latest biographical musical drama Tick Tick... Boom!, directed by Lin-Manuel Miranda, had a major impact in his life that he couldn’t have possibly imagined and made his dream come true of realizing some of his hidden talents like singing capability while trying to step in the boots of Larson.
“The way I'd put it is... Lin made a dream of mine come true that I didn't even know I had. You know what I'm saying? Like I think it's been a dream of mine to be in a musical... but I didn't own it. I was too scared of it potentially happening... and failing. So, you know, sometimes it takes someone else to see where you can get to, clearer than yourself. Lin is that - Lin is this magical creature that awakens parts of you... just by being in his orbit, that make you realise or find out aspects of yourself that you didn't even know existed. Because he is so full of his own self-belief, his own artistic freedom and creativity - you see him free styling and you're like how are you able to reach that level of total free-play and brilliance? - there's a self-belief there that I think is contagious. So, for me it was like, I will trust in this genius of musical theatre, even if I don't feel confident in myself, I will borrow his confidence in me,” Garfield said to Collider while speaking in a recent interview, explaining how his film, based upon the aspiring story of Jonathan Larson’s career, made his dream come true that he himself wasn’t aware of and at times scared of owning it because of fear and lack of confidence, that is his musical capability. The Spider-Man then goes on to describe filmmaker Lin-Manuel Miranda as a “magical creature” who helped him realize his true self and find various “aspects of himself that he didn't even know existed” before. Garfield further praises the director as someone who is “full of his own self-belief, his own artistic freedom, and creativity.”
