Actor Bruce Willis is stepping away from acting.

In a post shared on social media, actor Bruce Willis’ family shared via a statement that the actor has been diagnosed with aphasia, after which the actor has decided to step away from acting. The statement read that Bruce had been experiencing some health issues and after getting the checkup done, he was diagnosed with aphasia, adding that it has been impacting Bruce’s cognitive abilities. Hence, the actor has decided to step away from acting.

The statement read that reaching to a decision where he had to step away from something he really loves was not easy for him as had built a career that meant so much to him. The family’s post said that the time has been challenging not only for the actor but also for the entire family, but they are extremely grateful for the continuous appreciation of the fans’ love, compassion, and support towards their family.

The announcement, which was signed by Rumer Willis, Scout Willis, Tallulah Willis, Mabel Willis, Evelyn Willis, Emma Heming Willis, and ex-wife Demi Moore, concluded that they are all moving ahead towards the future with a strong mindset and together and wanted to let Bruce’s fans know that he is thinking about them and that they mean a lot to him.

The actor, who has appeared in highly appreciated and successful movies including Pulp Fiction, The Sixth Sense, 12 Monkeys, Sin City, Die Hard, The Fifth Element, etc., is considered one of the most successful actors in the industry who has often played the character of a tough guy with a golden heart.

Bruce Willis has received various awards in his career, including Golden Globes and Emmy Awards. He recently appeared in "Death Wish" in 2018, directed by Eli Roth, and has several projects lined up in the coming year. Mike Burns, who is directing "Out of Death," which stars Bruce, shared that on the first day of filming he could see the actor having some medical issues and that’s why he was asked to shorten his lines. Mike Burns also mentioned that he is glad that the actor is taking some time off and is going to focus on his health because he could witness Bruce Willis’ health deteriorating.

Terri Martin, the production supervisor of the upcoming thriller movie, White Elephant, shared that Bruce Willis just looked lost and he would often say that he was going to do his best, which he did. Terri said that everyone on the set admired him and his dedication to his work, but maybe it was time for Bruce to retire and focus on his health. Director Jesse V. Johnson mentioned that he did not feel comfortable working with Bruce Willis again because of the adjustments the production house had to make.

Aphasia is a condition that tends to hinder an individual’s ability to communicate, making it difficult for them to talk or write. Scout Willis shared on her social media that she is thankful and overwhelmed to see so much love and support for her father online. Actor John Travolta had an emotional reaction to the news of Bruce Willis retiring from the world of acting due to medical conditions. He shared a picture him and Bruce as well as Demi Moore and Kelly Preston's with a caption that the two of them became good friends as they worked on the two biggest successful movies of their career being Pulp Fiction and Look Who's Talking. John added that Bruce had told him year later that he wants John to know that when something good happens to him, he felt like it's happening to him before adding that that's the kind and generous soul he is.

Actress Sarah Paulson also commented that Bruce Willis is an incredible acting partner and also the loveliest. She describes him as the most hilarious and gentle co-star and added that he reigns supreme in her book. Fans and other co-stars and actors have been poring out their love and support for the actor in such difficult times but a lot of them have applauded to his decision to take time off and focus on getting better. 

Bruce Willis is not the first person in the industry who is battling Aphasia, but Sharon Stone has dealt with the condition herself, having had a stroke in 2001, and continues to work actively. Emilia Clarke from Game of Thrones also opened up about her challenges with aphasia after an aneurysm, mentioning that she could not remember or even say her name out loud. Although with Emilia, through speech therapy and language therapy, aphasia can improve on its own, not much is known about Bruce Willis’ aphasia, but according to research, it could be triggered by a stroke, trauma to the head, or even brain disease.
