Bruce Willis was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia.

On Thursday, actor Bruce Willis’ wife Emma Heming Willis revealed that the actor has been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia.

Emma posted a photo of her husband on social media, saying that his illness has worsened since the family first disclosed that he had aphasia last year. She wrote in the caption that the family would like to start by expressing their sincere appreciation for the unbelievable outpouring of support and assistance, and the amazing stories they have all did receive since Bruce's early diagnosis.

She continued by saying that, in that spirit, they wanted to provide everyone a status report on their beloved husband, father, and friend, Bruce, since they now have a fuller knowledge of what he is proceeding through. Emma continued by explaining that since they announced Bruce's aphasia diagnosis in spring 2022, his condition has deteriorated, and they now have a more definitive diagnosis: frontotemporal dementia (also known as FTD), and that difficulty communicating are only one of the disease's symptom Bruce is going to suffer from. While this is painful, receiving a precise diagnosis is a relief.

Emma continued that Bruce always did believe in using his voice throughout the world to help other people and to spread awareness about crucial matters both publicly and privately. They shared that they understand in their hearts that, if he could, he would react today by attempting to bring worldwide attention and a feeling of belonging to the people who are also trying to deal with this serious condition and how it affects so many people and their families.

She concluded that Bruce always has discovered joy in life - and has tried to teach everyone he understands how adding that it meant everything to witness that sense of care partially reflected him and to all of them. Emma said they ended up moving by everyone's love for their dear husband, father, and friend during this tough period. Everyone's continued compassion, comprehension, and honor will allow them to assist Bruce in residing the fullest life possible.

There are presently no treatments for the disease, which we keep hoping will change in the upcoming years. As Bruce's situation worsens, we hope that any press coverage will be focused on increasing knowledge and understanding, and financial backing for this disease.

Frontotemporal dementia is an umbrella term for a collective of brain disorders that impact the frontal and temporal lobes. This means that sections of these lobes are getting smaller, which can cause speech impediments, emotional difficulties, and personality changes.
