All the Captain America fans were genuinely heartbroken when Chris Evans bid a final adieu to his Steve Rogers role. Evans has been fairly open with his role as Captain America and had earlier said with Avengers: Endgame rolling in, he would too say his final goodbyes to the role. Now things seem to have taken a turn for the better again.

After having retired as Steve Rogers, Chris Evans will once again make a debut appearance on the screens with his iconic shield. The superhero will be seen in the next Marvel Cinematic Universe movie based on the Fantastic Four. In Fox's Fantastic Four movie that was released in 2005, Chris Evans has taken the role of the Human Torch, Johnny Storm. The character had pyrokinetic powers and utilized his heat tolerance when in battle.

After making it to the Marvel movies as the First Avenger, Chris Evans has ever since played the character of Steve Rogers, and his superhuman alter ego, Captain America. Starring in the esteemed role for more than a decade, it was natural for fans to connect to the image of him and his shield heading strong into the thickest of the fights. But after years of playing the iconic role of the First Avenger, Chris Evans chose to head out after Avengers: Endgame.

Apart from starring in the Avengers' last movie, which shook the MCU world pretty badly, Chris Evans has wielded his shield in other Marvel movies that take after the infamous comics. He also starred in Avengers: Infinity Wars and has four Captain America movies to his name.

However, he is not the only MCU actor that chose to quit their high-profile roles in the movies. Evans's co-actor Robert Downey Jr, infamously remembered as Tony Stark an Iron Man, also walked away from his role in his last portrayal in the Avengers movie. While he might not make it to the screen back as Iron Man ever again, Chris Evans has made the better choice by sticking with Avengers 4.

He took to Twitter to share the news with his eager fans on October 4th, 2021, and said, "OFFICIALLY WRAPPED ON AVENGERS 4. IT WAS AN EMOTIONAL DAY, TO SAY THE LEAST. PLAYING THIS ROLE OVER THE LAST 8 YEARS HAS BEEN AN HONOR. TO EVERYONE IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA, BEHIND THE CAMERA, AND IN THE AUDIENCE, THANK YOU FOR THE MEMORIES! ETERNALLY GRATEFUL."

The actor will be on familiar grounds in the Fantastic Four movie as he has a long-held record of acting in its previous version back in 2005. However, returning as an Avenger rather than a Human Torch can be considered as a significant update from his last role.

More on the Fantastic Four franchise

Back before we knew the Avengers as they are today in the 2000s, Fo held the rights to the Fantastic Four characters of Marvel. The production house tried twice to come up with a blockbuster idea that featured the characters and yet couldn't get it to work all right. Finally, they went ahead with the Fantastic Four movie where Chris starred as the Human Torch, Johnny Storm. He was joined by Jessica Alba as Sue Storm, Ioan Gruffudd as Reed Richards, and Micheal Chiklis as Ben Grimm. The movie failed to create a lasting impression at the box office, and yet a sequel, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, made titles in 2007.

The movie and role weren't pretty much to the liking of Evans, and he was already eyeing up the position of Captain America. Five years from then, he finally landed the role offered to him by Marvel Studios and entered the franchise again with a shield in tow. With the MCU's announcement of MCU Multiverse franchises, there is so much that can happen in the cinematic universe even if Evans had previously let go of his beloved shield back in January this year, as Deadline had reported.

While the Fantastic Four and the return of Captain America are making a lot of buzz and fans are ecstatic, Disney and Marvel are keeping details of the movie under the wraps. To the thrill of everyone concerned, no one yet knows who is going to lead the latest MCU project.

The movie will be featuring the first superhuman family of the Marvel universe, once again revolving around the adventures of The Thing, Invisible Woman, Mr. Fantastic, and the Human Torch. It's yet to see who will be filling the role of Human Torch in the new movie that first belonged to Caps. But again, seeing the shielded Captain America is going to be a treat for many.

The other Disney and Marvel movies to release in 2023 are Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and three others.
