American actor David Harbour, who gained recognition for his portrayal of Jim Hopper in the Netflix science fiction drama series "Stranger Things," is slated to star in "Violent Night," a new Christmas horror helmed by Norwegian director Tommy Wirkola. David Harbour earned a Critics’ Choice Television Award in 2018, along with Primetime Emmy Award and Golden Globe Award nominations for the portrayal of Jim Hopper.

Josh Miller and Pat Casey, the writing duo behind "Sonic the Hedgehog," are writing the movie’s script. Tommy Wirkola is a director who has worked on films such as "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters" and "Dead Snow." Kelly McCormick and David Leitch of 87North are producing the film, which will be released on December 2nd, 2022, and distributed by Universal.  In Netflix's "Extraction," David Harbour played a deadly mercenary alongside Chris Hemsworth while the actor starred in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's superhero picture "Black Widow" as Red Guardian.

There's no word on when "Violent Night" will start filming, but with a release date a little over a year away, one would expect cameras to start rolling sooner rather than later. Meanwhile, David Harbour will return to television in Season 4 of "Stranger Things" next year.

Talking about Stranger Things 4, David Harbour said, "What we're trying to do, as we elaborate on this thing, [is] to draw it back and make sure that we don't have an endgame like, some of us thought about, that show 'Lost'." What happened to the polar bear? We're trying to draw it in so the [elements of the storyline] start to come to a head and become a complete piece. Season 4 lays a lot of pipe for that. "

Stranger Things is produced by Monkey Massacre Productions and 21 Laps Entertainment and created by Matt and Ross Duffer. Along with executive producer/director Shawn Levy and exec producer Dan Cohen of 21 Laps and exec producer Iain Paterson, the twin brothers act as writers, directors, executive producers, and showrunners for the series. Stranger Things seasons 1-3 are now available to stream on Netflix, with season 4 set to debut in 2022.

The actor is now filming filmmaker Christopher Landon's "We Have a Ghost," which also stars Anthony Mackie, Jennifer Coolidge, and Tig Notaro. The film depicts a man who becomes a social media sensation after discovering that a ghost has been hidden in his house, and the actor goes through a significant makeover to play the part.

'Dead Snow' by Tommy Wirkola dealt with zombie Nazis rising from their graves to wreak havoc on a group of students in the lonely mountains of Norway. The film was savage in its execution and didn't hold back on the gore. Despite the movie's horrifying components, it also had a lighthearted tone to it. Whereas 'Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters' is a sequel to the German folklore fairy tale "Hansel and Gretel," in which the titular twins have grown up and are now working as a hired witch extermination team.
