After helping thousands of people reach home during the first wave of COVID, he also provided healthcare equipment to everyone in need during the second wave. All his efforts have made Sonu a living legend for his fans, and there have been multiple instances where fans have made crazy efforts to meet and thank the actor.
One such instance occurred on Saturday when a fan cycled 1200 km from UP to Sonu's residence in Mumbai to meet his idol. The actor was overwhelmed by his fan's efforts in the viral video. The fan also offers a garland to Sonu in response, of which Sonu returns the garland as an act of courtesy. The actor then asks the fan about his journey and his whereabouts.

The actor tried his best to arrange beds, oxygen cylinders and funds for everyone even during the acute crisis of resources during the second wave of this pandemic. During an interview, when Sonu was asked about the reasons for his endeavour, he replied, "The happiness I have achieved is much more than 19 years of a career as an actor. When the whole journey started with migrants one and a half years ago, I didn't know I would connect with many lives. My mother used to say: Whoever stands by you during your hour of need is a big person. I could relate to that. I lost my parents, but I wish they were around to see what I am doing now. They are some kind of a guiding force.”
