Since the sequel of "Sex and the City" was announced, titled "And Just Like That," it has managed to attract the audience’s attention for various reasons, one of them being the sequel without one of the main cast members, Kim Cattrall, who starred as Samantha Jones.

Recently, the three stars of the show, Sarah Jessica Parker who plays Carrie Bradshaw, Cynthia Nixon who plays Miranda Hobbes, and Kristin Davis who plays Charlotte York-Goldblatt, sat down during a roundtable and spoke about their decision to say yes to the sequel and how they almost thought that it wouldn’t happen.

In a video released by HBO Max, the actresses who got emotional talking about the reboot said, "We’re back because we want to be. Nobody dragged us back. This was a hard-fought choice. We want to be here to tell this story in this way and invite all these new people." Sarah Jessica Parker wiped tears off her eyes and added, "I didn’t think it was going to happen... We’re very aware of the good fortune that surrounds just this effort this time. "

Cynthia Nixon added, "You can never go home again. Except very occasionally, you actually can. This amazing thing that happened in your life, you know, 25 years ago... " Kristin also added to the conversation, "You never get to work with people this long, in this way, in this depth."

Sarah Jessica Parker shared that there was so much that went into making the reboot happen. For example, actresses Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis are now executive producers of the show, and Cynthia Nixon is directing as well. To which Cynthia added that directing is an amazing opportunity and quoted, "I said yes right away, even though I was very, very scared, but it's been amazing. People could not have been more supportive. "

Adding to Cynthia now directing the show as well, Kristin shared, "It is such a unique thing to have Cynthia. You've been in it with us for so long, and you know the fabric. You know everything about it, right? So when you do say something to us, it's so fascinating. It has more weight. Also, just listening to her call cut when she’s in the scene with you, that’s special."

On the addition of the characters, Kristin said, "They're so brilliantly cast, and they have such an interesting point of view." Cynthia added to the comment and shared during the round table that "Michael Patrick [King, the series director] really focused on the heart of each of these characters and also their connection to each other. He's so funny, but he also goes for the gut punch every time. "

Kim Cattrall had previously shared that she has always been very clear about not being a part of any more sequels to the show or movie hence the reason why the audience won't see her in the sequel too. There were rumors of Kim not getting along with the cast since the beginning, but it was made very clear after the second movie of Sex and the City came out that she would not like to reprise her role ever again in the future. Although she has not shared her take on the sequel, in which her absence is mentioned in the opening seconds as confirming that Samantha Jones had fled New York City for a new job in London after falling out with Carrie Bradshaw. Kim Cattrall later confirmed on Christmas that she was actually in London.

The original Sex and the City debuted on HBO in June 1998 and ran for six seasons, during which it was nominated for more than 50 Emmy Awards. The cast later reunited for the Sex and the City movie in 2008, which was a massive success at the box office. Because of the show's and movie's success and popularity, the producers decided to make a sequel, and Sex and the City 2 was released in 2010.

And Just Like That follows the characters of Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbes, and Charlotte York-Goldblatt through different chapters of their lives and careers. The actresses recently shared a joint statement after three women accused Chris Noth, who played Mr. Big and Carrie Bradshaw’s love interest on the show, of sexual assault. The statement said, "We are deeply saddened to hear the allegations against Chris Noth. We support the women who have come forward and shared their painful experiences. We know it to be a very difficult thing to do, and we commend them for it. "

However, the reboot has received mixed reviews from the audience, as they believe that the show has struggled to find its balance in today’s "woke" times. The backlash is not new for the makers and the cast of the show as it has previously received backlash mainly due to its largely white cast and claims of gender and racial stereotyping and sex-shaming. Many tributes to political correctness and sensitivity have also been seen in the sequel's episodes, with the characters debating racial microaggressions, gender identity, and sexuality.

The new episodes of "And Just Like That" air in the US on HBO Max on Thursday at 12:01 a.m.
