Madea and Agnes Brown come together in A Madea Homecoming; Credits: Screen Rant

The world is presently a pretty bleak place to live in, but actor Tyler Perry and Brendan O'Carroll have been working together to remedy that. 

A Madea Homecoming is the latest installment in the Madea movies and one of the best too. Starring Tyler Perry as the iconic Madea, the film breaks the actor's long retirement plans for Madea as she comes back to give the world something to laugh on. The film has become a sensation on Netflix, with more and more people watching it each day. Needless to say, it is worth a watch!

One of the reasons that this Madea film has enjoyed immense success is the hilarious pairing of the Madea matriarch with Agnes Brown. 

Explaining how the idea of incorporating Mrs. Brown into the Madea world emerged, Perry told Screen Rant that he was working on Brain on Fire with Director Gerard Barrett. The director asked if Perry had heard of Mrs. Brown and showed him a few videos of Brendan O'Carroll playing the part.

Perry was instantly smitten by the character. He reached out to Brendan and said, "We got to do something together." At the time, Perry was not actively working on another Madea film. 

However, five years down the line, he thought to revive the character and decided it was the best time for bringing in O'Carroll's Mrs. Brown. The actor shared that the duo had a lot of fun playing Madea because O'Carroll made the portrayal "hilarious." 

Needless to say, the combined genius of Tyler Perry and Brendan O'Carroll helped bring out comedy that will have your stomach in stitches as you laugh throughout the film. 

Yet, comedy is not the only matter or concern with Madea. The film also speaks on serious issues like police brutality and exploring sexualities. Things that are integral to America.

Explaining why he decided to incorporate these serious talks into his film, Perry said that it was the need of the time, along with the fact that he had a platform from where he can reach out to the world when he has something to say. Perry wished to make people laugh but not see Madea just as a comedy they could forget after the giggles.

The actor wanted to ensure that there was something to think about when people watched the film and take it with them. He aimed at presenting these serious topics in a light tone so that people would begin conversations about them. Hence, he hoped that people could laugh yet feel responsible for what is going around the world today. 

The film also employed the help of a few new family members in the Madea household this year. Sharing how he manages to remember all the extended family members that show up in the film franchise now and then, Tyler Perry said that he is essentially Madea and these family members are his own. 

So, it is not a difficult task to keep them in mind as he thinks of them as people he himself knows. All these people come with their own issues and problems, and the Madea family is actually very large. 

Madea films have always been very keen on reunions, and in A Madea Homecoming, we see not one but two families coming together. The film stars Brandon Black, from Dear White People, as Madea's great-grandson Tim, who recently graduated. His success was reason enough for the entire clan of the Madea uncles and aunts to come together in celebration. 

But there is another family, just as large, which joins the Madea household. Tim's family is joined by the family of his friend Davi, played by Isha Blaaker from The Flight attendant. Davi brings her own matriarch, Agnes Brown, from the BBC series Mrs. Brown's Boys into the Madea universe.

Now, there are also talks of Madea continuing on a tour in 2023 as Brendan O'Carroll joins Perry. However, the tour is not confirmed yet. Perry said that he is taking things one at a time because the raging success of Madea is all that has taken the world now. 

He also said that his career, business, and family are at a point that is overwhelming now. And that is exactly why he thought it best to bring the character of Madea back one time again after he had retired her. 

When Perry looked at the world, he realized how "polarized" it had become with the pandemic scares and much more that has engulfed the planet. He realized that not many people had something to laugh at. 

When he decided to find something that could make people laugh, he thought "What tool do I have in my arsenal that can bring that kind of laughter?" So, he once again came back to his favorite matriarch, Madea, and it is safe to say that the world has been enjoying full belly laughs for a while since the film's release.
