The new Star Wars film has been in talks for quite some time now, but some unforeseen circumstances have led to another delay in the production of the film. "Rogue Squadron," the latest Star Wars film was said to begin production sometime in early 2022. But now that the film is once again scheduled for production for a later date, the film's previously set release date of December 22, 2023, is also said to be impacted.

Coming under the helm of Patty Jenkins, "Rogue Squadron" is the first mega-project of the space action series by Disney and Lucasfilm. The previous big-screen production of the studios was "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker," which had been released in 2019. The production house has since then worked relatively more on TV series or streaming service productions like the Disney Plus series "The Mandalorian." The hit series is now to be preceded by a new series that is to star Ewan McGregor, who will get to reprise his role as Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi.

The streaming service is also going to come up with "Book of Boba Fett," a series that will be following the story of Ahsoka. The spinoff series is a sequel to the life of the character which was first showcased in "The Mandalorian" by Rosario Dawson. Another Lucasfilm project that got delayed recently is the Indiana Jones 5. The film stars Harrison Ford, but the production had to be halted as the actor injured his shoulder and is yet unable to carry on with shooting.

The director of "Rogue Squadron," Patty Jenkins, made headlines back when she helmed the direction of "Wonder Woman" and also "Wonder Woman 1984." The director is also said to be cast for directing the third film under the franchise of the DC Film series. The filmmaker has also previously been said to direct a drama for Paramount.

The series in question followed the life of the legendary Cleopatra and is rumored to star the leading lady of "Wonder Woman," the Israeli actress Gal Gadot. The director is also behind the directorship of Charlize Theron's Oscar-winning performance in the "Monster."

The latest delay in the production of "Rogue Squadron" is said to have arisen due to scheduling conflicts of the Disney production with Jenkins. Now that the film has been taken off Disney's production schedule, it is only guesswork to think when the film would finally begin its shooting.

The Star Wars film was introduced to the public through an announcement at Disney and Lucasfilm's Investor Day last year in December 2020. It was said that the film would begin its pre-productions chores by the end of this year and then would start early next year for its production.

However, writer Matthew Robinson from "Love and Monsters" and "The Invention of Lying" and director Patty Jenkins are now relatively quiet about when the film could make it to the sets next. The scheduling issues are said to have arisen from both the side of Jenkins and the producers of the film. "The hope is that once Jenkins fulfills her previous commitments, she will be able to return to the project," said The Hollywood Reporter as they broke the news that the film is yet suspended for production.

The director, who is said to be directing Wonder Woman 3 at the time, had shared that she wished to make the “greatest fighter pilot movie ever made" and said that she would be sourcing inspiration from her father, who used to be a fighter pilot. While Lucasfilm hadn't yet revealed much about other productions or if they would start producing another Star Wars film in the interim, a few projects are already in motion, two of which will cast Marvel Studios chief Kevin Fiege and the other Taika Waititi

Meanwhile, other Disney productions to roll in are Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which is delayed to May 6, 2022, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, scheduled for November 11, 2022. However, the film's star Letitia Wright is on medical leave due to an injury.
