Saweetie gets candid about struggles as an artist

Saweetie is opening up about the challenges in her life.

Saweetie, who is nominated in the categories of Best New Artist and Best Rap Song at the 2022 Grammy Awards, appeared on the People Everyday podcast where she candidly talked about the struggles she faced on her journey to receiving appreciation from the audience along with her Grammy nominations.

The artist said that when someone works hard in their life to reach somewhere, it always feels nice when the work finally gets recognized or acknowledged, and in her case it is the nominations at the 2022 Grammy Awards. She shared that when she heard about her nominations at the Grammys this year, she was shocked and screamed. She was obviously very excited but then read people’s reactions to her nomination, after which she mentioned at the time that she believes that the music industry and the internet have their way of making someone feel like they don’t deserve anything.

Saweetie is hoping to win the Grammy Award and is already thinking about the special place at her house to keep the award and make it look like a museum. She added that good things aside, she did not reach this point without facing setbacks in her life and mentioned that since the artists are mostly under the spotlight, the audience and people like to believe that their lives are glamorous, but in reality, there are a lot of things that can go wrong or situations that can arise that are difficult to deal with.

The artist added that if you have a great team and the creatives that you’re working with are not overcharging you, then you’re okay. But a lot of things can go wrong if one is not aware about the things. Saweetie also recalled her early days in the music industry and expressed a desire to return to college. Saweetie just wanted to make something and now when everyone is charging for every second, that just kind of takes the art away. She studied at the University of Southern California before she decided to switch her focus towards music.

Asking what advice she would like to give to the college Saweetie, she added that she would like to tell her to take her time and not jump on the first opportunity she gets. The Grammy-nominated artist mentioned during the podcast interview that these little lessons have made her a wiser woman and she would have taken her own time and surrounded herself with people who are good for her career.

The singer recently shot a video with H.E.R for "Closer" and explained that she is beyond happy to showcase the journey of a woman who is single and free in her video and added that she has been spending a lot of time in the studio working on her debut album without distractions. Her album is titled, "Pretty Bitch Music ", and with an idea to transform the negative word (Bitch) used for women into something empowering and powerful and explained that the audience will get to hear the side of her they have not heard. 

Saweetie added that she feels that when someone acts like their life is perfect, or when they struggle to express their emotions, or when someone bottles up their emotions, it tends to backfire and that the same thing has happened with her. She concluded that she is just going to sound like an artist in the album.
