Selena Gomez talks about her split from Justin Bieber.

Selena Gomez’s documentary "My Mind & Me" was recently released on Apple TV+, and she opened up about her split from Justin Bieber in 2018.

While addressing her hit song "Lose You to Love Me," the actress-singer revealed that she approached singers Julia Michaels and Justin Tranter about writing a song that would explain all of her emotions. She described that she messaged Julia Michaels and Justin Tranter and told them she was ready to express her sadness, and they wrote the song in 45 minutes, calling it the quickest song she had ever written.

Selena went on to say that the song is about more than a lost love; it's about her learning to choose herself, to choose life, and hoping that others find grace and peace in the process as well. The singer clarified that the song is about recognizing that people can lose themselves to rediscover themselves.

Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber's relationship was one of the most publicized celebrity romances in history, and everything about it was made public until they called it quits in 2018 when Justin Bieber married Hailey Baldwin. Dealing with a public breakup was extremely difficult for Selena, and she says in her documentary that she felt tormented by a former relationship that no one wished to let go of, and then she just decided to move on and was no longer scared.

The actress stated that it was confusing because she felt she had to endure the worst conceivable heartbreak and then simply forget everything at drop of a hat. But she added that she just considered it had to happen and that it was ultimately the best thing that had ever happened to her. Recently Hailey Bieber appeared on the Call Her Daddy podcast where she explained that people were just angry at her because they believed that she stole Justin Bieber from someone they wanted him to end up with and that did not happen which is why all the hate and backlash she has received since the couple got married.

Hailey Bieber also revealed that after she got married to Justin Bieber, she did reach out to Selena Gomez and they spoke which was liberating and satisfying for Hailey to start her life with now husband Justin Bieber and she mentioned that only the three of them know the truth about their relationship and it's all respect and support for each other. She also clarified that she did not hook up with Justin Bieber while he was seeing Selena Gomez or anyone else.

Although Selena Gomez does not go into precise detail about her relationship with Bieber in the documentary, she does communicate her unhappiness with the direct correlation to the pop star. In another scene from the film, Selena Gomez sobs during rehearsals for her 2016 revival tour expressing that if people would ever see her as more than just someone's girlfriend. While crying the singer asks if her record company can see her beyond having to work with Justin Bieber after her record label's head, John Janick, asks her to do a song with him.

Selena continued that she is not sure what John thinks, and she wants to speak to him because she does not wish to disappoint him or lead him to believe he agreed to sign some fucking Disney kid. She continued by stating that it sucked because of the whole song thing and that he called her this morning about the song with Justin, like, when is she going to be good enough by herself? When is she going to be successful just by herself, without needing to be associated with anyone?

On Wednesday night, ET spoke with Selena Gomez at the documentary's premiere. When asked what she would tell her younger self, a Gomez who was juggling her career, personal life, and wellness, she said, "Never be afraid." She explained that she was never afraid to inform others that she needs some time away to focus on herself and she has never considered that a shameful experience. So, Selena said to be truthful, she is going to have a break because she requires it and she is being sincere and believes that's exactly who she is. Not afraid.

Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber broke the internet recently as they posed for a sweet photo together at the Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles, which sort of put and end to the long-rumored feud between the two. The source at the time said that they were cordial with each other and it no way seemed that they had any sort of hostility. Selena Gomez was recently asked about the pictures to which she said, it's nothing there to explain, just a great amount of respect.

A source also shared that Justin Bieber, Hailey Bieber, and Selena Gomez are just relieved with the fact that all three of them have cleared the air, and moved on with their lives and closed that chapter. The source added that Selena Gomez is doing fantastic and right now is only concerned with herself, her family, and her close-knit circle of friends. The actress-singer is no longer looking for a relationship and is just focusing on living her best life.
