Spider-Man No Way Home: Tom Holland Reveals That He Worked With Jon Watts To Change The Ending Of The Film

Less than a month away from its official debut in theatres Jon Watts directed Spider-Man: No Way Home’s leading star discloses a major detail about his upcoming superhero flicker. The Marvel actor Holland, who has become the leading name for the superhero-based franchise after Sherlock Holmes’ star Robert Downey Jr’s exit from the Marvel Cinematic Franchise at the end of its 2019’s blockbuster Avengers Endgame, during his latest interview with GQ spoke about how he if not the most important definitely played a significant role in changing the ending part of the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming released in 2017 and Spider-Man: Far From Home in 2019, Spider-Man: No Way Home. Holland recalled the story, revealing that the way he and Jon Watts has several conversations regarding the various ending scenes from the movie and they had to every time come with a new idea if it didn’t perfectly into what they have envisioned for the epic.

Anyway, the day finally came to shoot the big finale, “the crescendo scene, like, is this really f***ing happening? It’s crazy.” Only, it wasn’t working. “I kept stopping and being like, ‘I’m so sorry, I just don’t believe what I’m saying.’ ” The director, Jon Watts, took him aside, and Holland told him: It wasn’t me. The scene was wrong. “We sat down, we went through it, and we came up with a new idea,” Holland says. “Then we pitched it to the writers, they rewrote it, and it works great,” Holland said to GQ, remembering how the final scenes of the movie were changed during the filming after he didn’t like what it was at first place and he and director Watts had a little discussion where he told Watts that “the scene was wrong” and the director agreed and both of them came up with a new idea that they pitched to the writer which then ultimately got filmed for the current version of the film that the fans and followers are going to enjoy when they will watch it.

While the wait is almost over for the friendly neighborhood superhero fans as the film is set to release in theatres on 17th December for which they had to wait for at least more than six months as Spider-Man: No Way Home was previously slated to make its debut earlier this year but it had to be shifted due to the impact of the ongoing Coronavirus Pandemic which forced theatres around the world to shut down, that did not only impact  Marvel in a huge way but all major studios in the film industry felt the devastating effects.

"We were all treating [No Way Home] as the end of a franchise, let's say, I think if we were lucky enough to dive into these characters again, you'd be seeing a very different version. It would no longer be the Homecoming trilogy. We would give it some time and try to build something different and tonally change the films. Whether that happens or not, I don't know. But we were definitely treating [No Way Home] like it was coming to an end, and it felt like it," Holland previously shared with EW, explaining that the much-awaited film is going to be the final part in MCU’s Spider-Man franchise and is going to wrap thing up in a major way.
