Elodie Yung has played many variable characters over the years, but none so challenging as her latest appearance in The Cleaning Lady. The actress gets to portray a real-life hero in the series. She has already done some acting work in the Netflix series Daredevil where she played a superhero.

The series was an enriching experience for her as she got to portray a mother. Recently, the actress sat with Collider for an interview where she talked about what it was like to play a mother and also opened up about the twin actors who play her son.  She also talked about her acting relationship with fellow cast member Adan Canto, who helps portray the Thony-Arman relationship in the series.

Beginning her explanation about the series, the actress shared that though she was not aware of how "complex" the series would get on later, she still auditioned for the show. She was only allowed to read through two scenes for the show and act with what she perceived of it. Saying that the show is "deceptive," the actress explained that the series aims to trick people.

The Las Vegas show does not reveal much from its title, which could refer to any working cleaning lady. Yet the odd simpleton show soon takes a dire turn as Yung's character finds herself in situations no one can talk about.

Undocumented in America, she needs to do whatever she can to ensure her son gets good treatment in the country and help build a better future for him. In turn, she delves deep into the secrets of the city, which helps run the overground charisma of the town.

Hence, she cleans after the bloody mobs of the city that leave behind a mess every time there is a crime. The show particularly helps draw back the curtain on the popular glorification of mobs and crimes in songs and films.

The actress explained that there is "no glamour" when it comes to crimes and mobs. The show is a step to show the audience the dire, unaltered reality of the people who see themselves entangled in difficult situations they can not easily get out of, like Thony in this series. The struggle is hence multiplied manifold than any other working personnel.

The Cleaning Lady also shines the light on the character of a mother, who is left alone to fend for her son and make the most even in dangerous situations. Undocumented and connected with criminals, there is not much that can help keep her safe if she is discovered.

Yet, she manages to make difficult choices for the welfare of her son, sometimes with the help of her sister-in-law, the only person on her side. The sister is undocumented in the USA with her two children. The duo shows the pitiful struggle of mothers when left alone to provide for their kids.

The resulting experience for the audience is too intense to speak in words. The show is beautifully shot to capture all angles to make the storylines as authentic.

The actress also shared what it is like to book roles for herself as a "starving actress." Dedicating a minor part of her struggle to her ethnicity, Yung revealed that she gets to book roles every two to three years, so she is seldom picky when it comes to the parts that she can portray.

She exclaimed that she is lucky to have got the role in The Cleaning Lady and is very excited to have a responsible arc to play in the narrative. Not only does she get to carry the weight of the narration but also helps people understand reality using fiction.

She also appreciated Mellisa Carter, the showrunner, and Miranda Kwok, the series creator. The women's team made sure that the series was not any other action number but had something to tell. The women also work tirelessly to improve their art each day and present the series from "a very truthful point of view."

Talking about what it was like to play Thony, a mother so devoted to her son, the actress shared her experience about the twin actors who play her son. Sharing that she bonded with both the actors, she revealed that Valentino LaSalle is "more outgoing" than his brother Sebastian. The duo helps to impart Thony's son his distinctiveness.

As per the script requirements, the actress revealed that Valentino is usually present to play the son if there is much to cover in the story. But if the arc needs a more intimate moment between the mother and the son, or something specifically emotional, Sebastian plays the part.

Apart from her son, Thony is also struggling between choosing her husband and the man from the mob. Yet the actress revealed that there is not much when it comes to it because Thony is on a mission to save her son and she will do all it takes to ensure his safety.

The men in her life, her husband, the mob leader, and the FBI agent are all adding to her problems. Her gambling addict husband is betting away everything in Vegas, while the mob guy hammers on for her to do what the job requires.
