It is time to get your tea things out again because Bridgerton is finally returning with its second season!

The series received an abundance of positive acclaim, and fans have been waiting to know more about the series ever since the first episode of the show aired on Christmas Day last year.

The story takes an esplanade along the affairs of the Bridgerton family as the characters try to find love, played by cast members Jonathan Bailey, Phoebe Dynevor, Claudia Jessie, Luke Newton, Luke Thompson, Florence Hunt, Will Tilston, and Ruth Gemmell. The plot of the first series focuses on the love life of Daphne, eldest sister in the Bridgerton household, who then lands a mega-hottie and goes forward to marry him. Her love interest is Simon Bassett, a mysterious young man who returned to London to take care of his father's money affairs, and the character is played by RegĂ©-Jean Page.

The period drama takes place in Regency-era London and is now going to be back with more of the era's sophistication!

Rumors about the series renewal have been circulating even before the official streamer released any confirmation, along with speculations that the crew had begun the production in England earlier this year. The period drama has been watched in more than 63 million homes, which is a great accomplishment for any series.

However, until now, even the cast members of the show weren't clear on the fact if the series would be making a reappearance. Nicola Coughlan, who plays Penelope Feathrington in the series, had shared her hopes with Variety in December last year, saying, "We all really hope [it will be renewed]. It's a real joy to make, and the response has been beyond our wildest dreams. But until the Netflix gods come down and bless us, we don't know."

The show creator Chris Van Dusen had also shared a possible chance for the series to return in the near future when talking about the series' plot. Bridgerton is based on Julia Quinn's period drama novel and had subsequent chapters dedicated to creating enriching stories for all members of the Bridgerton household. While the first season is mostly about Daphne and her love story, the show creators want to do something similar, which means the series could extend to multiple seasons exploring different characters.

Talking to Cosmopolitan U.K. in December 2020, Van Dusen had said, "Obviously, we're just focused on the first season right now. And while that focuses on the eldest Bridgerton daughter Daphne and her love affair with Simon, we know there are eight Bridgerton siblings [and] there are eight Bridgerton books. So, in success, I would love to be able to explore love stories and romances for all the Bridgerton brothers and sisters, of course."

Daphne-Simon fans were in for a treat as Page revealed a few things about the newer seasons and said that the two love birds would get to find out more about each other. According to Page, things could go bad, too, but 'love is an evolving thing,' and until they do it together, things might stay good.

"I think that love is an evolving thing," he said when talking to T.V. Guide. "It's a living, breathing thing that needs tending, that needs looking after, that needs mending when it gets worn or torn. They get married very young. They still have a lot of growing to do. They have a lot to do, and I think it'll always be fun to watch them do that together."

But Netflix laid all the Daphne-Simon hopes to rest as it announced that Page would not be a part of the second season of Bridgerton.

Earlier this year, in January, Netflix finally confirmed the speculations for season 2 and said that it would surely be returning with more. This season's focus from the Bridgerton family is going to be Anthony Bridgerton. Lady Whistledown confirmed the news with an official statement declaring, "The incomparable cast of Bridgerton will return to production in the Spring of 2021. This author has been reliably informed that Lord Anthony Bridgerton intends to dominate the social season. I will have my pen ready to report on any and all of his romantic activities."

Taking after Quinn's romance novel from the era, The second season of Bridgerton will be following The Viscount Who Loved Me, which is the second book of the series.

Is season 2 all that there will be?

While it is too soon to answer, Van Dusen is optimistic and looking forward to creating individual seasons focused on all the siblings. Hence, Bridgerton fans can get up to as many as eight seasons over the years. Van Dusen told Collider, "I would love to be able to focus and really tell stories and love stories for all the Bridgerton siblings. For each character, for sure. I think we've done some work in season 1 to set up other characters [for more]. ... I think it's a deep well of the story for us to explore."

The verdict from the Queen

You can not make a period drama from the Regency era in London without adding in an official statement from the Queen. In Bridgerton, the task befalls Queen Charlotte, played by Golda Rosheuvel, who has quite a lot of thought for what might be lying ahead for the aristocratic family. "If Chris Van Dusen comes to me and says, 'Golda, what would you like to see in the second season if we have a second season?' I would say, 'The Queen and Eloise have to get together and form an alliance and find out who Whistledown is,'" she told Insider earlier this year. "I think it's the intrigue of meeting her match. ... I think there's a lot of joy in that for Queen Charlotte because she loves a little bit of gossip," revealed the British actress.

Daphne speaks

Now that we know that Anthony is going to have his very own season, fans are eager to know about his say regarding the newest season. Talking with Harper's Bazaar, Dynevor revealed her wishes for season 2, saying, "I'd like to see Daphne get involved in Anthony's love life since he was so involved in hers."

Additionally, despite Netflix's announcement that Page will not be returning, Dynevor is optimistic for more of Daphne-Simon's romance. She said, "There's no such thing as a happy ending, is there? I think love's always shifting and changing. So who knows? I'd like to see what happens next."

What's more?

Coughlan revealed that the show creators are presently keeping everything under wraps and want to maintain an element of surprise. In a January interview with TVLine, Coughlan said, "They're keeping everything super, super-secretive, so I don't really know yet. Trust me, the cast, we've been speculating heavily. I text Claudia Jessie a lot and ask, 'What do you think is happening?' I've been speculating a lot about storylines and just trying to apply logic where I don't know if logic works."

However, she wishes there was more for Penelope in the next season. She told Radio Times, "I'd love to go on that journey with her, to see how she's changed. I'd really love to come back because I feel like we've just scratched the surface. And because there's such a huge cast in this show, there's so much more of all the characters. ... There are people I didn't even get to act with."

Apart from all that the storyline could offer, Bridgerton is finally coming back, and it's time to learn more about elite mannerisms!
