Selena Gomez is regarded as one of the most profound singers, songwriters, and actresses in the industry, who, with her unpretentiousness and integrity, has managed to impress the audience and celebrities. She is known as one of the kindest people who understand the struggle with fame and mental health and uses her platform to address it openly for her fans.

Selena, in her candid interview with WWD, opened up about her mental health, the pressure of being a role model, her new beauty line and the impact she wants to make on people with her platform. It is no secret that Selena Gomez has always expressed her views on early fame, her struggles, and her personal life, whether it is with her music or with her words on social media. She sometimes makes funny TikToks for her fans too.

Talking about social media and Selena Gomez, it has been made evident that the singer had uninstalled all the social media applications from her phone in 2019, and this was when she was the third most followed celebrity on Instagram. Selena shares, "I do all of my posts through just texting my assistant and the caption that I want".

On asking about why she chose to let her assistant handle her social media, Selena mentioned, "To be honest, I was just, like, this is too much information. This is too much of my personal life spread out everywhere, and it just felt uncontrollable. I felt like my thoughts and everything I was consuming revolved around a million different other people in the world saying good things and bad things. And I just thought, ‘Why would I — I don’t get anything from it. Nothing is giving me life.’ And I just snapped, and I was over it. I wanted to delete it altogether, but my team was smart enough to convince me not to. But I’m happy I didn’t, because it is such a wonderful way to stay connected, and when I do go on, it makes me happy to know that I’m just being completely honest and being true to who I am."

The singer shared that she had deleted the applications three years ago and is not aware of what is going on in the pop culture and that makes her happy. She specifically mentioned that maybe this does not make everyone happy, but it worked for her and she is content with herself at the moment.

Selena Gomez has been under the glamorous spotlight since 2007, but she shared that her kidney transplant, as a part of her ongoing treatment for lupus, changed her life completely. Selena Gomez, during a candid conversation with singer Miley Cyrus on her show "Bright Minded", on Instagram, opened up about her mental health struggles and shared with her fans that she is battling anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder.

During her interview with WWD, Selena shared that as she was growing up, there was immense pressure on her to be a ‘good role model’, which she later realized, seemed unrealistic to her. The singer stated that her life became public property in a short period, and she was unable to acknowledge that she was on a different journey, one that included her mental health. She added, "It was really confusing growing up, and once people created this narrative of my life, I realised I couldn’t be quiet anymore. I have to just address what needs to be addressed, and that’s me reclaiming my story, which is, ‘OK, yeah, I was definitely going through a hard time, and this is why, and this is what I deal with.’"

The "Wizards of Waverly Place" actress mentioned that there was a set narrative by the media for the media that they would be shamed for being rude to someone who was asking for help, which worked well for her. The public’s response to her opening up was overwhelming for the singer, who shared that people would come up to her and share their stories. "I love connecting to people. If I have this platform, I might as well use it for something good, because that’s what keeps me going", she added.

Selena Gomez, who stepped into the industry with Barney and Friends as a child, now has her beauty line, "Rare Beauty," and one percent of its sales go to the Rare Impact Fund, which is the brand’s non-profit affiliate working to expand mental health awareness services, especially in underserved communities. The goal for Rare Beauty is to raise $100 million over the next ten years, with $1.2 million already distributed in grants to eight organizations working in the field of mental health.

Vice president of Social Impact, Elyse Cohen, shared, "Over 40 percent of Gen Z and Millennials are turning to brands and celebrities and influencers that they know and trust and whose values align with their own, and among those issues, mental health is one of them. So, there’s an opportunity for an authentic founder and celebrity like Selena, who has such an incredible story, to make change on an issue. That storytelling piece and her own commitment and connection are invaluable. "

Selena Gomez, with her frank and honest views about mental health issues and the desire to create more awareness, has made Rare Beauty a brand of the future that is going to lay a path for the next generation of founders on how to be successful with their business while also creating an impact on society.

Talking further, the singer mentioned, "I wanted to create a safe, welcoming space in beauty that supports mental well-being across age, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, cultural background, physical or mental ability. I really hope that the brand can continue to make quality products that people feel happy using and knowing that we support them."

With being exposed to the public’s eye at a very young age, Selena Gomez had her ups and downs, but being able to acknowledge the issues and sit back to make things right for oneself is what she has taught the generation who looks up to her. She is going to star opposite heartthrob Timothée Chalamet in an upcoming Woody Allen film. Recently, she was seen alongside Steve Martin and Martin Short in the Hulu comedy-mystery "Only Murders in the Building."

Selena Gomez is also the producer of the globally successful Netflix series "13 Reasons Why", which she produced through her company, Moonhead Productions, along with her HBO Max cooking show "Selena + Chef," which premiered in the summer of 2020. Selena is signed to Interscope Records and has kept her music alive with her recent release, the Latin-influenced EP "Revelación," an ode to her Mexican heritage. Selena has all the while been involved in philanthropy, notably as a UNICEF ambassador since age 17.

One of the things that Selena Gomez has taught her fans and supporters is to always be grateful for what you have. Talking about her team, she said, "Most of the team joined in 2019 and 2020, but I had a vision, and I knew I needed experts to help me bring that to life. So, I’m very fortunate to have the team that I have and obviously would be nowhere without them."

Selena Gomez’s team is grateful to work with her as they mentioned that she is one of the kindest people in the world. During the interview, her team mentioned that when they started to work for her, they wanted to know what it was about Selena Gomez that people loved and admired so much, and only one thing came up: "vulnerability". The team further explained that because the singer is so open and honest about her struggles and challenges, along with her success and happy days, the audience who look up to her must have felt one of those in their lives too.

Talking more about Rare Beauty, Selena shared that since the pandemic had halted their process, she had been sitting at home talking to 20 girls on Zoom, where they would just tell her how they met other people in the community. She added, "It’s been really beautiful to see just how much the brand is touching people’s lives. And that’s all I really wanted at the end of the day. I wanted to make quality products that were easy and sophisticated but also accessible. I really wanted it to take care of people’s hearts."

The brand’s bestselling product category is blush, which surprised the team. Rare Beauty has managed to hold 165 digital educational pieces of training in the last year, where they have instructed makeup artists and beauty advisers detailed information about the products and how to use each product. The latest release everything is cruelty-free and vegan is mascara. Gomez described the response to the mascara as "a lot of love".

Selena Gomez will turn 30 next year, and when asked about her most important lesson thus far, the actress said, "It feels good to finally not care as much as I did."I think of how many years I wasted just caring so much about what people thought, and it was just suffocating. And I think I wasted time doing that. What I love so far about getting older is that I’m starting to just really be happy with who I am, know what I want, and know what I don’t want."

The lovely Selena says that she is looking forward to the next decade and loves to get older and living her life. "I love learning and growing and travelling and meeting amazing people. Yeah, I’m excited", she added lastly.

Friday, i.e., 15th October 2021, also marked the release of Selena Gomez's collaboration with Coldplay, "Let Somebody Go", which is featured in their album ‘Music of Spheres’. In honor of the release, she shared an Instagram post and thanked the band fronted by Chris Martin.
