Luca was a definite hit with the audience and made fans happy with its Oscar nomination. Based on the habitat of the Italian Riviera, the tale of Luca focuses on the friendship of two friends who wish to go on a world adventure. While they become incredibly close during their summer holidays, they hide the secret that they are sea monsters.

Directed by Enrico Casarosa, the film has a surprising amount of emotions attached which bring out the genuine delight in the story of the two friends. Luca features the screenplay by novelist and screenwriter Jesse Andrews who is famous for Me and Earl and the Dying Girl.

The screenwriter joked about his supersecretive job, sharing that it feels like he's working for a secret agency. He is expected to appear for work every day as they sort of build their stories in a "dream factory." However, they are not allowed to share the information from inside the factory with anyone else.

The screenwriter recently shared a talk with DiscussingFilm where he explained the motives behind the character he built, how he ensured that they remained true to themselves, and the tear-jerking ending of the film.

Revealing how Pixar makes such animated films, Andrew explained that the Studio's first motivation for the animated world was Toy Story. The film became the first CG animated film in the world with the length of a feature film and was the first project the studio managed with its caliber.

Making Toy Story proved that there is a different way to make animated films and share a story with their audience. Now, the studio has been working on the technology for more than two decades.

Andrews has been long associated with Pixar but he couldn't bring his previous project about a father and son comedy to fruition. The project was labeled expensive and was used as a portfolio for getting him auditions in studios. Finally, his hard work paid off Enrico Casarosa chose him for Luca and they could then work together on the film from the Bay Area.

Pixar has now solidified its brilliance in the said field of animation and is the famous inventor of the 3D animation style used in film today. Apart from that, the studio also brings forward the most relatable stories that tend to resonate with its audience.

While the studio is very strict about its quality, Pixar always makes it to the top when the filmography of the movies is questioned. The studio aims to bring only the best of its collection to its audience.

Jesse Andrews shared why films like Luca and other pictures from Pixar have a long-standing tradition of being the best in their year of release. The screenwriter shared that Pixar spends a lot of time curating the finer points of its films, which takes patience and preservation. The end result is always magnificent and much refined when compared with the work of other studios.

Explaining the process of the making of Luca, he revealed that the ideas about the upcoming film are first revealed to many checks before they are presented to the writers and scriptwriters. These then prepare a draft for the script, which is then followed by an interim of at least three to four years as the studio sketches the details of the film.

The three-four years are further divided into time spans of around three months in which the animators produce the animations that could go into the film. These are viewed and reviewed and then critiqued for better results. It is possible that the work does not make the cut many times.

The animations are cut and joined with the help of the writers as they collaborate on the project and bring forward the graphics. The director being the top-tier supervisor of the film, the scenes are passed through their vision to check if everything is going fine. The screenwriters adapt to all the changes suggested by the directors.

When Jesse Andrews had been introduced to Luca, the crew had already written the Luca script, yet the film did not stand true to the way the director and the studio wanted from it. The animators had already designed a basic layout for the two lead characters, Luca and Alberto, as they try to hide their terrible secret from their friends in the town of Portorosso.

One of the duo is introverted, shy to speak out, while the other one is the most thrilled all of the time and likes being on adventures instead of being afraid of them. In a way, together they made a good team for the troublesome child as the society saw him and the quiet child bonding together.

While Luca is emotional to a certain extent, the film is a true blend of emotions and strong narration, which ended up explaining the tale of the two kids who managed to build a friendship despite their differences.

They worked to find what would be the best for each other and happily agreed to let the other embark on the journey to figure out their own destinies.
