Days after an excerpt from The Story of Marvel Studios: The Making of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a book that uncovers several secrets about the superhero-based franchise, revealed that each of the superhero characters of the Guardians of The Galaxy team was initially meant to be introduced to the fans in the Marvel Cinematic Verse through short films, now the film director James Gunn himself took to social media platform Twitter to confirm the story.

"I forgot about this, but this is true. Not only did we plan it, we shot footage for one of the scripts (Rocket & Groot)-part of which was the first shot of Rocket shooting a machine gun on Groot's back that we showed at San Diego Comic-Con," Gunn tweeted Monday afternoon. He then added a follow-up tweet unveiling he wanted to cast Alan Tudyk in one of the roles in the short film.

"We didn't end up doing it because I realized it was ridiculous for me to be writing and directing 4 short films at the same time as I was prepping an enormous world-building movie," the filmmaker continued. "The 3 shorts were going to play before the 3 movies coming out before Guardians - which seemed like a good idea to get people to know them since everyone was telling us these unknown characters were going to be 'Marvel's first bomb.'"

Gunn finished the thread by revealing much of the Star-Lord short film ended up being adapted to the beginning of the original film anyway.

"It was really hard for me to admit it was too much for me & I was sad deciding I couldn't do them (especially Rocket & Groot). But, you know, maybe someday!"

While the first two movies of the popular film series have become a household name in the Marvel Studios franchise, both the films are currently streaming on the Disney+, the fans are pretty excited to see what the director has to offer on the table this time in regards to the upcoming superhero blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3.

Marvel Studios Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 will feature a star-studded cast of Zoe Saldana in the role of Gamora, Pom Klementieff in the role of Mantis, Will Poulter in the role of Adam Warlock, Chris Pratt in the role of Star-Lord, Vin Diesel in the role of Groot, Bradley Cooper in the role of Rocket, Karen Gillan in the role of Nebula, Elizabeth Debicki in the role of Ayesha and Sean Gunn in the role of Kraglin Obfonteri.

The film is currently set to arrive in theatres around the world on May 5, 2023, after a whole lot of delays due to the Coronavirus. The Walt Disney Motion Pictures. is serving as the distributor of the film with the production under Marvel Studios.

The 55-year-old filmmaker James Gunn is currently busy as he is working on the television show Peacemaker, a spin-off of 2021’s The Suicide Squad, slated to release on HBO Max.
