Captain Marvel star Gemma Chan, who is all set to feature in Marvel Studios The Eternals, reveals how different elements in the film's diverse cast contributed to the various superhero characters in the film.

During The Eternals world premiere, the 38-year-old Gemma Chan said, "You know what, it feels like, we talked about this quite a lot, When we kind of met each other and had worked together for a bit, we realized that we'd been cast... that there were elements of each of us in our characters and that's why we were cast. So, you know, it is diversely cast but it doesn't feel tokenistic. It feels like we've been cast because we are..." to which the reporter interrupted by dubbing her a "superhero."

While the English actress and model Gemma Chan is the only actor who has previously, appeared in an MCU film which includes Captain Marvel, she will be joined by a diverse cast of the film such as Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, the first deaf superhero in the MCU, Brian Tyree Henry's character Phastos, the first gay superhero in MCU, 50-year-old Korean star Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Mexican superstar Salma Hayek as Ajak and Pakistani actor Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo.

"I was not expecting to be asked back so soon. When I spoke to [Marvel Studios president] Kevin Feige and he said, "We would love to have you back," I thought he was just being nice. [Laughs] Like, maybe at some point in the distant future, if at all. But it was a nice surprise. And to be working with this one was a treat. Obviously, I wasn't going to turn that down," Chan said while speaking with Entertainment Weekly when she was asked about her initial reaction when the studio for the first time asked her back for Eternals.

During the same interview, she added saying that she was pretty excited to play Sersi as she has never seen a superhero like her anywhere and that she is a fighter all by herself when she was asked about her experience while playing Sersi in the film."And I was excited about playing this character where I haven't really seen a superhero like her before. She's a free spirit. She's not your typical warrior-fighter kind of superhero. And I was interested in this mix of characters as well, them coming together and [figuring out] what they're like as a slightly dysfunctional family," Chan added.
