On Monday, Mumbai Police detained businessman Raj Kundra, husband of actress and entrepreneur Shilpa Shetty, in connection with an adult film scam. What exactly is the situation, and is Kundra facing any more cases like it?

What is the nature of Raj Kundra's arrest, and why has he been detained?

The Mumbai police announced on February 4 that five people had been arrested for allegedly forcing women to participate in pornographic films. They would promise opportunities in web series to these ambitious actresses from all over the country who had travelled to Mumbai. They would, however, rewrite the script on the day of the shoot and scare the women by exposing themselves.

A week after Raj Kundra's arrest, which shocked Bollywood, the issue became murkier by the day, with the businessman's wife, Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty Kundra, defending her husband by claiming he is in the business of "erotica," not "porn."

Shetty Kundra, like her actress-sister Shamita Shetty, has been mocked on social media for her efforts.

With news that India's Enforcement Directorate is investigating the case and has requested copies of the FIR, case files, and other pertinent papers from Mumbai Police, we take a look back at Kundra's past, his arrest, and whether this is his first run-in with the law.

Was there a probe into Kundra?

Kundra's name first surfaced in the investigation after the Mumbai Police Property Cell discovered the participation of a UK production business, Kenrin, whose executive, Umesh Kamat, was arrested, according to a Times of India storey. He was accused of uploading porn recordings made by Gehna Vasisth.

Who is Poonam Pandey, and why is she making statements about the arrest in Kundra?

After filing a complaint against Kundra and his collaborators at Armsprime Media in 2019, she claimed they were illegally utilising content starring her for an app they were developing, even though their contract had been cancelled. Kundra and his associate Saurabh Kushwah disputed Pandey's claim, and court processes are still ongoing.

Kundra later mentioned that he had left the company in 2019 and had no ongoing case. Kundra then claimed that he had left the company in 2019 and had nothing to do with the incident. He has constantly been denying the charges that have been imposed on him and trying to prove himself innocent in every manner.
